Phnom Penh (FN), Mar. 7 – In order to achieve the vision of further strengthening gender equality, the Royal Government of Cambodia, under the leadership of Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet shared seven recommendations.

The premier addressed on Thursday (Mar. 7) on the occasion of the 113rd anniversary of the International Women's Day on 8 March 2024 under the theme “Women and Girls in Digital Transformation”.

The seven recommendations are as follows:

First, the Royal Government will launch a national policy on gender equality to strengthen and expand the scope of gender mainstreaming and empower all women and girls within the policy framework and society through the gender equality transformation approach. This approach focuses on increasing investment in gender equality, promoting a positive mindset, and strengthening monitoring and evaluation systems to promote accountability to women and the public.

Second, the Royal Government continues to introduce and promote the implementation of policy measures to support women entrepreneurs leading Small and Medium Enterprises, improve financial inclusion for women, and support women's participation in every socio-economic activity.

Third, the Royal Government is continuing to strengthen and expand the social protection system by expanding the scope of implementation of the National Social Protection Framework to vulnerable groups in the formal and informal economy system, and ensuring Universal Health Coverage to ensure equitable access for all citizens.

Fourth, the Royal Government focuses on addressing the gender gap in the digital sector, especially increasing the participation of women and girls in the digital sector, promoting the effective and secure use of technology, and enhancing education in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM).

Fifth, the Royal Government focuses on and encourages all stakeholders, including the private sector, to promote the work-life balance program and the recognition of the value of domestic work and family care. Necessary measures will be taken to reduce the workload of women and girls and provide more life options for women.

Sixth, the Royal Government pledged a continued effort to promote social morality, women's values, and harmony in the family through strengthening the role of the National Committee for the Promotion of Social Morality, Women, and Khmer Families Values, an inter-ministerial mechanism. There will also be continued strengthening of the implementation of the National Action Plan to Prevent Violence Against Women and measures to prevent and reduce risks that affect the safety and dignity of women and girls.

Seventh, the Royal Government must continue to implement programs and measures to enhance the leadership of women and girls at all levels and in all areas to ensure that all citizens, women and men, have full rights and opportunities to contribute to sustainable socio-economic development.
