Phnom Penh (FN), Mar. 7 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet gave seven recommendations to improve the cultural sector, addressing the 26th Cambodian National Culture Day, held on Thursday (Mar. 7) at the Diamond Island Convention and Exhibition Centre.

The seven recommendations are as follows:

First, the production and design of art products are still limited with expensive input, which makes our products less competitive. Samdech Thipadei asked the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts to review the necessary incentives to promote the production and innovation of art products to be attractive and highly competitive.

Second, the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts and relevant institutions shall enhance the work related to intellectual property, copyright, and related rights, prevent plagiarism, and amend the relevant legal framework in line with technological advancements and international cooperation.

Third, in order to strengthen cooperation and learn from successful experiences at domestic and international in the fields of industry, culture, and innovation, Samdech Thipadei encouraged the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts and the private sector to send officials, artists, and craftsmen to learn new experiences and collaborate with partners to organise local skills training. At the same time, research, publishing, and new technologies should be improved to modernise the sector.

Fourth, the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts, relevant ministries and institutions and local authorities at all levels must continue to pay attention to the safeguarding and suppression of all crimes in a timely and effective manner at the location of temples, historical sites, pagodas, and structures dating back centuries across the country. Encouraged to further jointly inventory all the sites of the tangible heritage to avoid encroachment and to continue to reclaim the statues of the nation that were lost during the war.

Fifth, the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts must continue to cooperate with the Ministry of Tourism to promote the potential of national cultural tourism more widely in all forms for national and international tourism, focusing on national cultural values, contributing to national economic growth and poverty reduction.

Sixth, Samdech Thipadei would like to support the cooperation of the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts and the Ministry of Information, which has made the Cambodian film industry grow remarkably by allowing prime hours for broadcasting the local dramas. In addition, local authorities at all levels must cooperate to facilitate and offer locations in their territories to ease the film production process.

Seventh, the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts must continue to cooperate with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, inspire all Cambodian embassies and consulates abroad to regularly organize Cambodian annual cultural events to promote national culture and strengthen cultural diplomacy and must inspire the Cambodian community abroad to actively participate in organising the National Cultural Day.
