“Straight out of university, when I started my career, as a hotelier in the mid-90s, women General Managers were unheard of. I could not honestly fathom why. I was raised to believe that you can be whoever you want to be, achieve whatever you set your mind one, simply because I am human, just like everybody else. I was fascinated by that big chair inside the big room at the end of the hall, where only the ‘’people at the top’’ can go to and I wanted to be the one sitting on that chair inside that office. Being young and impressionable, I even told myself, I’ll have it done in ten years’ time. Funny enough, I first had to run a hotel in 2005 for what was at that time, a very well regarded, and highly successful property in Siem Reap, Cambodia. However, being 10 years more matured, I decided that it felt too early and that it was turning into someone far more egotistical than I would ever want to be. I opted to see the world and decided to ship myself off to China. The owner of that same hotel never gave up on me. Four years later, in 2009 they found me in Malaysia and they talked me into opening what is now the award-winning Anantara Angkor Resort as a General Manager. I was the only woman General Manager at that time in Cambodia and two years down the road, one because two, then after, three,” Sarah Moya, General Manager, shared.

She added, "Today, certainly the numbers have grown across the world. Particularly with Marriott International, there is an admirable number of women at the helm of property management. We have come a long way ladies! I must also say that from where I am, from where I have been I have come to across so many talented women whom I predict will go to where I am now and even beyond, if they wish to. They only ever truly need to want it and to work for it.”

Courtyard by Marriott Phnom Penh takes great pride in welcoming these exceptional women leaders to the team, underscoring the hotel's commitment to diversity, empowerment, and excellence in leadership. Their collective experience, passion, and dedication will undoubtedly propel the hotel to new heights of success and distinction in the hospitality landscape.

As we celebrate International Women's Day, join us in welcoming and congratulating Sarah, Ria, and Lenen for their outstanding achievements and contributions to Courtyard by Marriott Phnom Penh.
