Kandal (FN), Mar. 12 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet revealed that direct flights between Cambodia and Australia will soon commence, following the signing of an agreement to open air relations between the two nations during Samdech Thipadei’s visit to Australia.

The premier spoke on Tuesday morning (Mar. 12) during the inspection of the construction of Techo International Airport in Kandal Province.

Samdech Thipadei underscored, "The day before our visit to Australia, we signed an agreement facilitating aviation communication. This agreement lays the groundwork for future direct flights. Currently, we rely on connections through various countries [...] We have finalised an agreement with Australia to facilitate direct flights as soon as demand increases."

On the occasion, the premier underlined that with the completion of crucial aviation infrastructure like the Techo International Airport, Cambodia will be better positioned to facilitate direct flights from around the world, fostering easier travel and enhancing the tourism sector.

Samdech Thipadei added that once Techo International Airport is put into operation, the number of special flights from Europe is expected to rise, further bolstering Cambodia's tourism industry and increasing income for its people.

Please be informed that Australia and Cambodia have shared a longstanding relationship since the 1980s, with Cambodian culture becoming an integral part of Australian society. Recent developments in bilateral trade underscore the potential for an even stronger partnership, with bilateral trade surpassing USD 546 million in 2022, marking a 65 per cent increase compared to 2021.
