Kandal (FN), Mar. 12 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet said that Samdech Thipadei does not believe that a senior official of the Ministry of Economy and Finance spoke ill of the Funan Techo Canal project.

The premier spoke on Tuesday morning (Mar. 12) during the inspection of the construction of Techo International Airport in Kandal Province.

"Some malicious individuals persistently assail the Funan Techo Canal project, asserting its futility, alleging that it can only facilitate the construction of floating houses and small fishing boats. Thus, a certain radio station frequently reported that a senior official from the Ministry of Economy and Finance deemed the Funan Techo Canal project as worthless and devoid of benefits for Cambodian citizens," stated the premier.

Premier Hun Manet asserted, "I find it hard to believe that the senior official lacks an understanding of the reasons behind the kingdom's utilization of this location and contends that it serves as a pretext for acquiring foreign debt."

On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei said that the Funan Techo Canal project will function as a vital water transportation route linking the river to the sea, generating employment opportunities, and reducing transportation costs.
