Kandal (FN), Mar. 13 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet signalled plan to expand major health services to hospitals at the grassroots level to expedite the treatment of critically ill patients, speaking on Wednesday (Mar. 13) during an inauguration ceremony of Techo Sen Koh Thom Hospital, Kandal Province.

The premier underscored the urgency of expediting health services to the people, enhancing accountability, and extending services to grassroots levels through the establishment of health posts, centres, referral hospitals, and across districts and provinces. He also stressed the pressing need to further elevate the quality of these services.

Samdech Thipadei added, "In the past, advanced health services, such as heart surgery only concentrated in Phnom Penh, but later can be decentralized to the grassroots level to improve the quality of service. […] Documents can wait, but saving people’s life cannot.”

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet continued that while doctors may not be angels, they perform angelic duties by aiding in the recovery of the sick, although not for every individual. To enable doctors to carry out this noble work effectively, it is imperative to provide them with the necessary equipment and facilities, thereby fortifying hospitals and enhancing the quality of doctors at all tiers.

Additionally, the government is allocating budgets to procure essential medicines for common conditions like high blood pressure and diabetes, ensuring the availability of vital treatments for the populace, the premier added.

On the occasion, Premier Hun Manet also expressed deep concern for the welfare of the people and directed all doctors to enhance the quality of care and expedite treatment processes without delay.
