Kandal (FN), Mar. 13 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet said that a minority of citizens seek medical treatment abroad, and yet, a majority of citizens are receiving medical treatment domestically.

The premier spoke on Wednesday (Mar. 13) during an inauguration ceremony of Techo Sen Koh Thom Hospital, Kandal Province.

"People kept asking why many citizens are still seeking medical treatment abroad if Cambodia’s health sector has been improved. In response, if we calculate by population, a majority of citizens are receiving medical treatment locally, and only a small portion are seeking the treatment abroad," the premier underscored.

On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei said that it is common for citizens to seek medical treatment abroad. For instance, Canadian citizens also seek medical treatment in the United State, while Americans and Japanese also seek medical treatment overseas.

Premier Hun Manet highlighted that Cambodian citizens are now opting to receive certain specialized treatments domestically, such as dental procedures and heart surgeries, rather than seeking them abroad.
