Phnom Penh (FN), Mar. 15 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet stated that the concerns of the people are also the concerns of the Royal Government, speaking on Friday (Mar. 15) during a weekly cabinet meeting at the Peace Palace.

The premier’s remark came after reports surfaced alleging that the Royal Government did not prioritise the welfare of the people, particularly regarding the closure of the Y&W Garment factory in Dangkor district, Phnom Penh.

In response, Samdech Thipadei underlined that certainly, our country operates within a free market framework, where companies must compete, and success is not guaranteed by the state.

Samdech Thipadei continued, "Therefore, I urge those genuinely interested in understanding Cambodia's economic situation to explore various perspectives. If one wishes to observe bustling areas, visit markets or social gatherings; for tranquillity, seek meditation spaces. To observe employment opportunities, consult the National Employment Agency. My commitment to the people lies in investment, job creation, and other endeavours for our citizens."

Please be informed that on 16 February 2024, the owner of Y&W Garment factory, a Chinese national named Yuen Po Faito, fled without settling the last month's salary and other entitlements owed to 4,849 workers.

The Phnom Penh Municipal Court temporarily seized all properties and materials belonging to Y&W garment factory.
