Phnom Penh (FN), Mar. 26 – Cambodian Delegate Minister Jean François Tan regarded the resolution of border issues between Cambodia and Laos, as well as with neighbouring countries, as a positive development. He underlined the necessity of addressing border disputes with precision, which demands expertise rather than involvement from politicians or nationalists.

Delegate Minister Jean François Tan spoke during the press conference on Tuesday (Mar. 26) after Samdech Thipadei concluded his visit to Lao PDR.

Jean François Tan, "If resolving the border issue with Laos or other countries takes a long time, it is a positive sign for Cambodia and the Royal Government of Cambodia. Ensuring Cambodia's continuity for the next generation is not a matter to be taken lightly; rather, it's a weighty responsibility in history."

On the occasion, Jean François Tan added that this requires the Cambodian side to exert significant effort when negotiating or making decisions. He underlined that, like in any other country, border issues are influenced by various factors such as nationalism, politics, economy, culture, and sometimes geopolitics.

Delegate Minister Jean François Tan underscored, "In inter-state relations, as well as in domestic politics, resolving any border issue requires only experts. They do not need nationalists or politicians; they need experts, such as sharp map experts, geographical experts."

Jean François Tan noted that measuring the location of poles and determining their numbers takes considerable time.
