Phnom Penh (FN), Apr. 2 – Samdech Techo Hun Sen, President of the Supreme Privy Council to the King, announced to enhance relations with Japan once Samdech Techo assumes the president of the Senate.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen received a courtesy call by Japanese Ambassador to Cambodia Ueno Atsushi on Tuesday (Apr. 2) at the CPP headquarters.

Ambassador Ueno Atsushi thanked Samdech Techo for allowing him and his delegation to pay a courtesy call. He hoped to hold bilateral talks with Samdech Techo once he becomes the president of the Senate.

Taking this occasion, the ambassador congratulated Samdech Techo who will become the president of the Senate on 3 April 2024, hoping that the relations between the two nations would be enhance within the framework of the Senates, governments and the two peoples.

For his part, Samdech Techo Hun Sen warmly welcomed the ambassador and thanked the ambassador for his good coordination during Samdech’s visit to Japan in early 2024. Moreover, Samdech Techo also thanked Japan for arranging him to meet all his friends, especially thanking to the Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida for his warm welcome despite that fact that Samdch no longer holds the position of the prime minister.

Lastly, Samdech Techo Hun Sen mentioned that once Samdech becomes the president of the Senate, he will continue to strengthen and expand relations with Japan, in particular within the parliamentary institutions for the benefit of the two nations and peoples. Samdech also conveyed regards to the Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and wished the Japanese ambassador good health and success in his endeavours.
