Phnom Penh (FN), Apr. 3 – With the technical assistance of the Skills Development Program (SDP) of Swisscontact Development Partners, the Secretariat of the National Training Committee of the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training convened a meeting between the National Training Board (NTB)'s Secretary and the 12 Provincial Training Board (PTB) within the jurisdiction of the Skills Development Program (SDP).

The meeting took place on 2 April 2024 at the Ministry of Labor, presided over by Delegate of the Royal Government and Director General of the General Department of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (DGTVET) Hing Sideth, also serves as the Chairman of the National Training Board (NTB)'s Secretary and the Executive Committee.

The meeting was attended by 45 participants, including the vice chairman of the Provincial Training Committee, representatives from six specialized departments under the auspices of the General Department, a Swisscontact representative, and the deputy chairs of the Secretariats from 12 Provincial Training Committees. These delegates hailed from the provinces of Kratie, Stung Treng, Preah Vihear, Mondulkiri, Ratanakiri, Kampong Chhnang, Pursat, Battambang, Banteay Meanchey, Oddar Meanchey, Pailin, and Koh Kong.

The purpose of the meeting was to review the performance of the Provincial Training Committee in the past and to facilitate the sharing of successful experiences among participants to foster growth. The aim is to recruit 1.5 million young people from impoverished and vulnerable families into vocational and technical training programs to meet both current and future provincial and national labour market demands. Additionally, the meeting aimed to align with national education policies, particularly the technical and vocational training.

The Provincial Training Committee functions as a collaborative coordination mechanism within sub-national administrations, playing a vital role in providing orientation, developing strategies, offering guidance, addressing challenges, disseminating national strategic plans, and compiling educational reports related to technical and vocational training. The committee collaborates closely with stakeholders and the private sector to enhance the quality and effectiveness of education and training for human resources in the province, aligning with the needs of the labour market and contributing to national social and economic development.
