Phnom Penh (FN), Apr. 25 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet asked artists to refrain from fabricating and making a false and exaggerated performance, and avoid racial and religious discrimination.

The premier spoke on Thursday (Apr. 25) during his gala dinner with artists at Diamond Island Convention and Exhibition Centre.

The premier urged the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts to rectify errors, provide guidance on appropriate behaviours to uphold dignity, and prevent any detrimental effects on traditional arts.

"In the era of the digital revolution, information spreads rapidly, making it challenging to prevent misinformation. To bolster our society, I urge all artists to exercise utmost caution, refraining from fabrications and performances that propagate falsehoods or racism," said the premier.

Samdech Thipadei underlined that Cambodian artists, with their talent and creations, serve as a bridge to present Cambodia globally, sharing its historical experiences, including its struggles and hardships. Their art also plays a pivotal role in driving cultural transformation and fostering mutual respect.

According to the prime minister, artists are influential, particularly within media spheres, whether through direct performance or indirect influence. The preservation of national art, culture, and the personal values of artists hinges upon their individual choices. Righteous decisions garner public support, whereas wrong choices face societal pressure. Hence, all artists must uphold principles of morality, virtue, and truth in their expressions, actions, and attire. This commitment to dignity in participation not only promotes societal morality but also fortifies national identity and prestige.

On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet also underscored the importance of crafting strategies to engage the public while carefully assessing their potential impact on cultural traditions and morality.

Samdech Thipadei urged all artists to unite by joining or forming arts associations, fostering a spirit of collaboration, unity and solidarity to achieve shared objectives and collective success.
