Phnom Penh (FN), May 2 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet said that currently, Cambodia has a total of six car assembly plants, with four already in operation and two in pilot phases.

The premier spoke on Thursday (Apr. 5) during an inauguration of Toyota assembly plant in the Royal Group Phnom Penh Special Economic Zone.

"Currently, Cambodia has six assembly plants, with four operational and two in pilot phases. They are located in Banteay Meanchey province, Koh Kong, Pursat, Svay Rieng, Kandal and Phnom Penh,” the premier underlined.

The premier highlighted Toyota's longstanding presence in Cambodia since the UNTAC era, citing it as a beacon of business growth. The establishment of the Toyota factory today is attributed to the concerted efforts of Samdech Techo Hun Sen, former Prime Minister of Cambodia, and the strong collaboration between Cambodia and Japan.

Samdech Thipadei voiced optimism, foreseeing continued investment attractiveness in the kingdom's skilled labour force, bolstered by peace, political stability, and robust macroeconomic conditions. This, he believes, will sustain and attract further investment in industries reliant on such skills.

According to Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, Cambodia must prioritise the development of industrial infrastructure to cultivate and empower skilled human resources aligned with labour market demands. He underlined the 7th legislature's vision of transitioning Cambodia's industrial structure from labour-intensive to high-skilled industries, as outlined in the Cambodian Industrial Development Policy 2015-2025. This shift aims to generate high added value, fostering sustainable economic growth, job creation, income enhancement, and improved living standards for the people.

On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet reiterated Cambodia's vision to emerge as a hub for automotive component and electronic equipment production, destined for export to both regional and global markets. This strategic direction is expected to yield significant positive outcomes for the nation's socio-economic development
