Phnom Penh (FN), May 28 – Legend Cinemas and Shanty Town Spirit signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 23 May 2024, presided over by Prince Narithpong Norodom and Princess Ermine Norodom, Founder of the Shanty Town Spirit Association, along with Chan Sambath, Human Resources Managing Director representing Legend Cinema, and other distinguished guests.
As one of the leading cinemas in Cambodia, Legend Cinemas continually strives to share the love of film and new cinematic techniques with its fans and the general public. This collaboration includes several initiatives including screening free films for children and needy families from Shanty Town Spirit, as well as educational activities for the next generation. Additionally, Legend Cinema plans to offer more free screenings for children in the near future. In celebration of Legend Cinema's 13th anniversary, Shanty Town Spirit donation boxes have been placed at each of our 12 cinemas—10 in Phnom Penh and 2 in Siem Reap and Sihanoukville—to raise funds for Shanty Town Spirit. Donations can be made at any Legend Cinema location.
More specifically, Legend Cinemas and Shanty Town Spirit have launched a program called Shanty Town Spirit Fundraising. Initiated by Legend Cinemas, this initiative aims to raise awareness and funds by organizing gatherings for movie screenings, accompanied by sponsored snacks and drinks provided by Legend Cinema.
Funds raised from ticket sales will be donated to various Shanty Town Spirit organizations. This support is intended to assist families and children with disabilities, ensuring they have access to education, necessary study materials, and medical treatment for a better quality of life.
Ms. Chan Sambath, Managing Director of Human Resources at Legend Cinema underlined, "Legend Cinema is not just a movie theatre company; we are also committed to helping society and supporting numerous charitable activities for underprivileged children and families."
Legend Cinemas is also a member of the Rose Club sponsored by Shanty Town Spirit, which has about 100 members. As Rose Gold level members, Legend Cinemas offers movie coupons for all members to enjoy their favorites 2D, 3D, Gold Class, or Diamond Class movies.
At the end of 2024, Legend Cinemas will host a special event featuring a free children's movie screening, providing enjoyable films, delicious popcorn, drinks, and a variety of snacks.
Mr. Tony Francis, a representative of Shanty Town Spirit, noted, "In less than a year, Legend Cinemas has actively supported free community screenings and educational activities for the next generation, and has joined our Rose Club."
