Phnom Penh (FN), May 31 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet established fund to promote and safeguard endangered arts. Samdech Thipadei asked the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts and artists to jointly preserve the ancient art form from being lost.

The premier spoke on Friday (May 31) during the meeting with Cambodian Artists under the theme "Heirs" in Phnom Penh.

"The Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts has undertaken many works in the past, but various factors, including market dynamics and public disregard, have posed risks to some art forms. Therefore, to address the feasibility of these factors, I have decided to establish a fund to contribute to the safeguarding of high-risk art forms for further preservation," the premier underscored.

Samdech Thipadei added, "I am encouraged to see progress in multiple sectors, with artists playing a crucial role in preserving cultural arts. However, it is important to note that while many art forms are developing, some are at risk of being lost due to factors such as market demand. For example, Yike Theater and Spoken Theatre."

On the occasion, Samdech Hun Manet continued, "As various sectors have developed, I recognise the hard work of the relevant ministries and institutions. I would like to thank the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts for their research and efforts in promoting the art of Yike. However, its use and promotion are still limited. Alongside innovation and development, it's crucial to highlight our intangible cultural heritage and world heritage, so the world can appreciate Cambodia's glorious civilization. Let's take care of it together."
