Phnom Penh (FN), Jun. 4 – Cambodian Senate President Samdech Techo Hun Sen and US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin exchanged views on the Russia-Ukraine war and the Middle East conflict, agreeing that war is not a solution.

They stressed the need for a negotiated resolution and agreed on a two-state solution for the Middle East to provide lasting peace for Israel and Palestine.

This agreement was made during a courtesy call between Samdech Techo and the US Secretary of Defense on Tuesday (Jun. 4).

Both sides also exchanged views on the South China Sea dispute. Samdech Techo said that to ensure peace and stability in the South China Sea, all stakeholders must:

1. Strictly abide by the DOC;

2. Jointly resolve disputes among the involved parties;

3. Achieve the COC agreement that Cambodia strives for, as it did in 2022 when Cambodia was the rotating chair of ASEAN, to ensure long-term security in the region.
