Phnom Penh (FN), Jun. 19 – Cambodian Delegate Minister Jean François Tan mentioned that the Royal Government of Cambodia and the Government of Singapore agreed to continue regular political consultations to broaden cooperation in four sectors.

Delegate minister spoke on Wednesday (Jun. 19) at the press conference on the outcomes of PM Hun Manet’s official visit to the Republic of Singapore.

The four sector are as follows:

1. Trade and food security: to promote trade and investment, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong highlighted that Singapore is one of the largest investors in Cambodia as the two economies complement each other. Both sides urged the relevant public and private institutions of the two countries to jointly identify potential areas for win-win cooperation, starting with food production and supply.

2. People-to-people tie: Cambodia requested the Singaporean side to establish direct flights from Singapore to Sihanoukville and increase the number of existing flights from Singapore to Phnom Penh and from Singapore to Siem Reap.

3. Energy security: both sides applauded the fruitful outcomes of the first working group meeting, co-chaired by the Energy Ministers of Cambodia, Singapore, and the Lao PDR on 29 May 2024, to facilitate cross-border electricity trade. They shared resolve to leverage the success of this project to drive the development of the ASEAN Power Grid.

4. Defence and security: both sides expressed their commitment to further strengthen cooperation in combating transnational crime such as cyber scam, the spread of fake news and drug trafficking.
