Tbong Khmum (FN), Jun. 20 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet stated that the efforts to liberate the nation and its people from 7 January 1979, until achieving full peace on 29 December 1998, represent an invaluable historical fact that must be remembered by future generations of Cambodians.

The premier spoke on Thursday (Jun. 20) on the occasion of the 47th anniversary of marching towards national salvation, held in Tbong Khmum province.

On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei underlined that the third phase marks the beginning of a new chapter in Cambodia's history, focusing on maintaining peace as a prerequisite for national development and harmony among all Cambodians, achieved through Samdech Techo's win-win policy.

Premier Hun Manet underscored, "History clearly demonstrates that the first military organisation was formed on 20 June 1977, following the overthrow of the genocidal regime of Khmer Rouge. Subsequently, the Kampuchea United Front for National Salvation was established on 2 December 1978, leading to victory on 7 January 1979."

Samdech Thipadei added that the victories on 7 January 1979 and the political victory on 29 December 1998 marked the end of civil war in Cambodia, ushering in peace and complete national unity. This represents an invaluable historical fact that the next generation of Cambodians must remember.
