Phnom Penh (FN), Jun. 26 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet expressed his gratitude to the philanthropists for their support in building houses for veterans. He also thanked Kun Kim, Vice President and Secretary General of the Cambodian Veterans Association, for seeking philanthropists’ participation in the association's work.

The premier presided over the celebration of the 17th Cambodian Veterans Day, 21 June 2024, on Wednesday (Jun. 26) at the National Defence University, Phnom Penh.

Samdech Thipadei underscored, "I am very grateful to the philanthropists who have contributed to this effort. I would like to thank Kun Kim for his efforts in seeking philanthropists’ participation in the project. I am proud to be able to participate in the distribution of houses and see the project's progress."

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet also underlined that he had visited many places where the Veterans Association had prepared houses for veterans, including Chongkal district in Oddor Meanchey province and Battambang province. He saw firsthand how former soldiers who once fought against each other during the civil war now living peacefully side by side in the same village.

"We are proud not only to provide housing for veterans but also to establish a 'Peace Village' where our former Cambodian soldiers who once fought against each other during the civil war now come and live together, and build new communities," Samdech Thipadei added.

On the occasion, Prime Minister Hun Manet added that the Royal Government of Cambodia has been committed to protecting veterans and has instructed provincial governors to provide land for the construction of Veterans Association offices in provinces. He also instructed provincial governors to support local philanthropic efforts and to prioritize building toilets in addition to houses, especially for veterans who lack basic facilities.
