Phnom Penh (FN), Jun. 26 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet issued five recommendations to ministries, institutions, and the Veterans Association to enhance government support for veterans.

The premier spoke on Wednesday (Jun. 26) on the occasion of the celebration of the 17th Cambodian Veterans Day.

The recommendations include as follows:

1. The Ministry of Social Affairs, Veterans, and Youth Rehabilitation shall support the creation of the Commune / Sangkat Veterans Community Development Commission in the Capital-Provinces and shall collect data on the living conditions, challenges, and needs of veterans, former civil servants, and their families. Furthermore, the Ministry shall establish a well-functioning Veterans Community Development Program to enhance the effectiveness of delivering welfare services to veterans.

2. The Ministry of Social Affairs, Veterans, and Youth Rehabilitation must continue to effectively implement social security schemes for veterans and their families, including social security, funeral, and one-time grants, through the National Social Security Fund nationwide. Efforts must also be made to promote the implementation of housing projects for veterans and their families, as outlined in the Royal Government's public investment plan.

3. The Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning, and Construction and the Ministry of Social Affairs, Veterans, and Youth Rehabilitation shall work together with other relevant ministries and institutions to enhance the implementation of the policy on providing Social Land Concessions to former armed forces and their families more efficiently.

4. The Cambodian Veterans Association at all levels must continue to strengthen and expand its activities in line with the resolutions of the Second Representative Congress of the Cambodian Veterans Association. The Association shall act as the core in promoting the role of veterans in society, encouraging solidarity and mutual support among veterans, and engaging actively in outstanding competitions for the benefit of both individuals and the nation.

5. Relevant ministries, institutions, local authorities, and the armed forces must collaborate to support veterans, with a particular focus on assisting the families of those facing difficulties.
