Phnom Penh (FN), Jun. 27 – Lloyd Austin, the Secretary of Defence of the United States (US), sent a letter dated June 6, thanking the Cambodian President of the Senate, Samdech Techo Hun Sen, for welcoming him to Cambodia for the second time.

“Thank you for welcoming me to Cambodia for the second time. It was a pleasure to see you again.

As I mentioned in our meeting, the United States remains interested in working with you to strengthen the relationship between our two countries. I hope the United States can help Cambodia strengthen its security in a manner that benefits the Cambodian people.

I appreciated your candor regarding my proposals. I hope to continue discussions about how best to advance our bilateral cooperation, and I look forward to this next chapter of our defense relationship.”

Lloyd Austin arrived in Cambodia on 4 June 2024 for a one-day official visit. During his visit, Lloyd Austin paid separate courtesy calls on Cambodian Senate President Hun Sen, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet, and Cambodian Minister of National Defence Tea Seiha.
