Phnom Penh (FN), Jun. 27 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet announced that one of China's largest electric vehicle manufacturers, BYD, plans to invest in car manufacturing in Cambodia.

The premier spoke on Thursday (Jun. 27) at the celebration of the first National Day of Micro, Small, and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSME Day 2024), held at Diamond Island Convention and Exhibition Centre.

"According to the information I received, a Chinese electric car manufacturer is planning to invest in setting up a car manufacturing facility in Cambodia. This can be counted as a successful result. Everyone knows that BYD is a major company, and with Ford, Toyota, and Hyundai also present, they will connect with our medium and small companies here to create a component supply chain," the premier underscored.

It should be noted that BYD has already opened a branch in Cambodia by importing its electric vehicles for sale in the Cambodian market.
