Phnom Penh (FN), Jun. 28 – Samdech Techo Hun Sen, President of the Cambodian People's Party (CPP), underlined that the people's trust is a responsibility for the party to build a proud national history, where every individual in society makes a conscious contribution towards a common goal. This shared effort enables us to jointly defend our nation, protect the peace of all people, and drive social progress.

Samdech Techo spoke on Friday (Jun. 28) on the occasion of the 73rd anniversary of the founding of the Cambodian People's Party (CPP), held at the CPP’s headquarters.

At the same time, Samdech Techo highlighted the following points:

1. In all circumstances and situations, it is essential for leaders to demonstrate political correctness in both strategy and tactics to ensure success. The party's politics is neither left-wing nor right-wing, but rather pragmatic and adaptable, regardless of the challenges we face. Without political correctness, leadership is doomed to fail. Therefore, we must always anchor ourselves to the ideals of patriotism, while navigating the path of multi-party liberal democracy. This will enable us to develop political programs, principles, and policies that are aligned with the evolving situation in our country and abroad.

2. The people are the key to the party's success in all situations, whether during the national liberation struggle or in governing the country. Without the people's support, participation, and trust in the party's leadership, no task can be accomplished. Therefore, all party organizations at all levels must establish a strong connection with the people, listen to their concerns and demands, and inspire them to participate in the implementation of the party's political program.

3. Party officials at all levels must be strong, clean, and dedicated to ensure the party's victory. As the bridge between the party and the people, they play a crucial role in driving the implementation of the party's political program. To achieve this, it is essential to provide ongoing training and retraining for party officials, both in the short and long term, to continually enhance their political and professional capacities, as well as their virtues, character, and ethics. This will enable them to earn the love and support of the people. Additionally, we must strictly prevent and deal with officials who violate party principles and state laws, thereby protecting the rights and interests of the people.

4. For over 25 years, we have struggled to maintain a hard-earned complete peace. We have had to overcome numerous challenges, make sacrifices, and persevere in the face of negative forces to achieve this milestone. Therefore, we must cherish this peace and work together to protect it, ensuring it remains strong forever. Peace is the only way to achieve sustainable development, and conversely, sustainable development and equity are the only way to ensure peace. We cannot allow a small group of extremist politicians to undermine this peace. In light of this, I urge all people to promote nationalism and eradicate extremist politics from Cambodia. To ensure the sustainability of development, it is essential to continue pushing for reforms, as they are the driving force behind progress. Without reform or ineffective reform, development will lack momentum.

5. The CPP continues to uphold the banner of national unity under the Constitution of the Kingdom of Cambodia and the national motto, and firmly rejects any action that undermines unity. The painful lessons of the past have taught us a valuable lesson: we must not allow such a tragic situation to recur. On the other hand, it is essential to recognize the close relationship between national unity and internal party unity, with party unity at its core.

Therefore, all levels of party organizations, party officials, and party members must strive to maintain strong internal unity within the party based on the party's political programs, statutes, policies, and decisions. At the same time, the Cambodian People's Party has consistently implemented agreements on cooperation and alliances between political parties. On 25 October 2023, the CPP joined forces with 27 other parties, strengthening its relationships with all civil society organizations and all walks of life in accordance with the principles of democracy and the rule of law, aiming to foster peace, stability, and socio-economic development.

6. In the spirit of national unity, I would like to extend my gratitude to my fellow citizens everywhere who have enthusiastically supported the Funan Techo Canal Project, which is expected to be inaugurated in the near future. This project is another testament to the collective efforts of the Cambodian people, building on the momentum of our past national movements to protect sovereignty, territorial integrity, and public health. The Funan Techo canal project is an initiative born out of Cambodian ingenuity and determination, which will bring significant benefits to our nation, including shorter transportation distances, competitive pricing, increased irrigation and flood relief, expanded cultivation in the southwest, improved fisheries and aquaculture, and a boost to tourism. Moreover, the Funan Techo canal will also help Cambodia strengthen its political independence in water transportation. It should be noted that the canal's construction will not harm the environment or disrupt the flow of the Mekong River.

7. On this occasion, I would like to extend my sincerest gratitude on behalf of the Cambodian people to our development partners and international organizations for their invaluable support to the just and righteous cause of the Cambodian people. We appreciate their commitment to strengthening and expanding fruitful cooperation for development in Cambodia. The CPP, in adherence to the Constitution of the Kingdom of Cambodia, continues to pursue an independent foreign policy based on the rule of law, guided by the principles of the United Nations Charter and the ASEAN Charter. We strive to protect Cambodia's core interests and increase our participation in international affairs to promote peace, security, cooperation, and prosperity in the region and globally. In this era of evolving global complexities and challenges, I urge states, particularly major powers, to restore cooperation and find solutions to pressing issues through negotiations that prioritize peace, security, and prosperity for all humanity. I firmly believe that punishment, violence, and war are not viable solutions, as they only exacerbate the risks facing humanity.
