Kampong Cham (FN), Jul. 1 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet mentioned that the Funan Techo Canal Project is a symbol of nationalism. The groundbreaking ceremony will be held on the birthday of Samdech Techo Hun Sen, who initiated the project.

The premier spoke on Monday (Jul. 1) during the celebration of the 19th National Fish Day in Kampong Cham province.

"This project holds special significance as it embodies the spirit of nationalism, supported by various political factions and except for a small extremist group overseas. It is recognized as being in the interest of all Cambodians. This is a special project that we have to work together and I express my gratitude for this opportunity," the premier underscored.

5 August marks the birthday of Samdech Techo Hun Sen and the Funan Techo Canal project is a historic endeavour by Cambodian citizens for future generation.

The Funan Techo Canal project aims to connect waterways between rivers to the sea of Cambodia, passing through Kandal, Takeo, Kampot, and Kep provinces. It is about 180 kilometres long. The project is expected to cost about USD 1.7 billion and has been studied in detail.
