Phnom Penh (FN), Jul. 2 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet encouraged the Khmer Artists Association, led by Mao Chamnan, to work diligently to support artists of all forms. In particular, aiding struggling and aging artists.

The premier received a courtesy call by Mao Chamnan, President of the Khmer Artists Association on Tuesday morning (Jul. 2) at the Peace Palace.

For her part, Mao Chamnan expressed her gratitude to Samdech Thipadei for the opportunity to pay the courtesy call.

President of the Association Mao Chamnan also reported to Samdech Thipadei on the Khmer Artists Association's past achievements, the adjustment of its leadership structure and internal rules, and its action plan and work direction.

The Association's work focuses on several main activities, including, 1) compiling a list of association members, focusing on professional artists, active performers, artists who have lost their ability to perform, former artists, and mass artists, and 2) providing benefits to members of the Khmer Artists Association, including life-saving blood services, legal aid services, and artist certification to meet practical needs and facilitate access to association support funds.

For his part, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet expressed his pleasure in meeting Mao Chamnan and her delegation, congratulating Mao Chamnan on her recent election as President of the association.

Samdech Thipadei praised the Association's achievements, restructuring efforts, and introduction of its action plan and work direction, which support and unite artists across various forms. He underlined the association's role in preserving traditional culture and promoting national art. Additionally, Samdech Thipadei encouraged the association to continue recruiting artists of all kinds to become members, thereby enhancing collaborative efforts to support struggling and aging artists who have lost their ability to perform.

The premier also encouraged cooperation with relevant institutions and civil society organizations to contribute to the building of the Khmer Arts Association to grow further and provide opportunities for artists of all art forms, even non-members of the Association to contribute to the development of the arts in Cambodia.

On this occasion, Samdech Thipadei shared recommendations for the Association to focus on three main activities include as follow:

1. Collaborate with the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts in studying, researching, documenting, and identifying works of art to ensure clarity;

2. Participate in the wider dissemination of art through events and activities to raise public awareness of the nation's rich art culture;

3. Promote effective and flexible cultural artwork practices to enhance and sustain the creative arts sector, ensuring ethical practices among artists. This includes participating in the dissemination of educational messages, such as drug prevention, and contributing to the production of original content.
