Phnom Penh (FN), Jul. 7 – The Japanese government announced approximately JPY 8 billion (around USD 2 million) in financing for Cambodia to expand its electricity network in Phnom Penh.

Kamikawa Yoko held a bilateral meeting with Cambodian Foreign Minister Sok Chenda Sophea during her official visit to Cambodian from 5-6 July 2024.

The Japanese foreign minister reaffirmed her country's continued contribution to Cambodia's development, adding that the Japanese government would provide about JPY 8 billion for the expansion of the electricity grid in Phnom Penh.

For his part, the Cambodian foreign minister thanked the government and people of Japan for their significant contribution to the peace process in Cambodia and for providing substantial assistance for Cambodia's socio-economic recovery and development in the past.

Both sides also discussed ways to boost cooperation between Cambodia and Japan in the multilateral framework and exchanged views on regional and international issues of common concern.
