Phnom Penh (FN), Jul. 8 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet proudly announced Cambodia's candidacy to host the 20th Francophonie Summit in 2026 in Siem Reap.

The premier spoke on Monday morning (Jul. 8) during the opening of the 2nd Cambodia-France Business Forum at Sofitel Phnom Penh Phokeethra.

"I am proud to announce that Cambodia's candidacy to host the 20th Francophonie Summit in 2026 in Siem Reap. This prestigious event will highlight Cambodia's cultural heritage and commitment to Francophonie values,” the premier underscored.

Samdech Thipadei mentioned that Cambodia expects the final decision to be announced in October 2024 and expressed optimism about achieving positive results. He also thanked the French President Emmanuel Macron for supporting the candidacy.

The International Organization of La Francophonie (OIF) concluded the bidding process during the 127th session of the Francophone Standing Council (CPF) on 26 June 2024 recently.

It should be recalled that during the royal visit to France of Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni in November 2023, French President Emmanuel Macron encouraged Cambodia to bid for the Francophonie Summit in 2026 and pledged to support for Cambodia's candidacy.
