Phnom Penh (FN), Jul. 10 – Phorn Rim, Spokesman for the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, stated that approximately 2,968 electric vehicles have been registered in Cambodia. These include 1,614 cars and tricycles, 440 units, and 914 motorcycles.

Phorn Rim noted that in the first six months of 2024, compared to the same period in 2023, the number of registered motorcycles increased by 380%, tricycles decreased by 29%, and cars increased by 508%.
The spokesman for the Ministry of Public Works and Transport added that the registered electric vehicles include brands including BYD, Toyata, Tesla, BMW, AION, MG, Denza, Volkswagen, GAC, and Letin.
Phorn Rim also underlined that the use of electric vehicles in Cambodia is a growing trend, with people showing increasing optimism and high interest in electric vehicles compared to gasoline vehicles. The benefits of electric vehicles include low cost, comfort, low pollution levels, and zero emissions from some car companies.
Phorn Rim continued that the Royal Government will continue to make efforts to improve the number of charging stations and create more favorable conditions for electric vehicle use.
