Bangkok (FN), Jul. 12 – The official and friendly visit of Cambodian President of the National Assembly Khuon Sudary to Thailand symbolises the strengthening of people-to-people relations between the two countries.

Cambodian National Assembly President Khuon Sudary paid a visit to Thailand at the invitation of Thai National Assembly President Wan Muhammad Noor Matha.

Both sides discuss their work with honesty and a spirit of good neighborliness. They underlined mutual respect, especially for each country's independence.

Focusing on the people, Khuon Sudary requested her counterpart to increase trade volume and the flow of cross-border goods by removing barriers, promoting connectivity, and strengthening border governance. Additionally, they discussed attracting international tourists under the "Two Kingdoms, One Goal" strategy, which aligns with Thailand's "Six Countries, One Destination" initiative.

National Assembly President Khuon Sudary also underscored that the relationship between the National Assemblies is a people-to-people connection, bringing numerous benefits to the people, especially in today's rapidly changing world. In the face of geopolitical conflicts eroding the world order, parliamentary diplomacy plays a crucial role in maintaining peace, stability, and sustainable development for the people.

For the benefit of the people, both leaders pledged a strong commitment to promoting friendship and cooperation in all aspects of the partnership established by their respective governments. They discussed ways to enhance parliamentary relations and explored new, more effective mechanisms to boost trade, tourism, and the economy, with a particular focus on improving people's lives.

As a result of this high-level visit, both National Assemblies signed a new Memorandum of Understanding, replacing the old one from 2007, to reflect current realities and social development needs.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aims to foster more active and comprehensive friendship and cooperation through parliamentary diplomacy. The two National Assemblies will support each other, exchange information on good practices, and share relevant resources in mutually beneficial areas, contributing to peace, prosperity, and progress. They will also support each other in regional and international forums.

In its seventh mandate, the National Assembly of Cambodia prioritises strengthening and expanding parliamentary diplomacy to benefit people worldwide, both within and outside the region.
