Phnom Penh (FN), Jul. 18 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet urged to reduce airport fees during the low tourist season, indicating the government's willingness to accept reduced revenue, speaking on Thursday (Jul. 18) during a groundbreaking ceremony for construction of Samdech Pin Sem Museum in Siem Reap province.

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet stated, "We will reduce airport fees for departing flights by half, and consider further reductions if flights are at least 80 per cent full."

In addition, Samdech Thipadei underlined that during the low tourist season, or with the introduction of new aircraft, efforts would be made to minimise landing costs and reduce ticket prices, even if it meant a reduction in government revenue.

The premier also recalled negotiations with a company to construct a new airport in Siem Reap without toll charges on the road from the airport to National Road 6, as part of a BOT project.

At the same time, Prime Minister Hun Manet outlined plans for 2025 to promote Siem Reap as a tourist destination during both peak and low seasons. He introduced several measures for the low tourist season, including reductions in Angkor Archaeological Park ticket prices, noting that June marks the beginning of this period.

Before COVID19, the Royal Government of Cambodia targeted 11 million tourist arrivals but only received 7 million, prompting ongoing efforts to boost tourism.
