Hanoi (FN), Jul. 26 – Cambodian Senate President, Samdech Techo Hun Sen and Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh expressed their strong commitment to maintaining good relations and cooperation between the two countries. They underlined the importance of continuing to support each other in promoting economic development and prosperity for both nations and their peoples.

In this meeting, the Vietnamese side expressed deep appreciation for Samdech Techo's heartfelt gesture of attending the funeral of Nguyen Phu Trong on 26 July 2024. The Vietnamese side pledged to uphold the tradition of deep cooperation that Samdech Techo and Nguyen Phu Trong established, continuing this legacy within the leadership of the prime minister, the National Assembly, and the Senate. This tradition of cooperation and friendship extends not only between Cambodia and Viet Nam but also includes Laos, showcasing the strong ties among the three nations.

Both sides also discussed in detail the tradition of working together and expressed gratitude to the king, the Senate, the National Assembly, the Royal Government, and the Cambodian Armed Forces for their condolences on the loss of their great national friend. Both Viet Nam and Cambodia recognise the significant contributions of Nguyen Phu Trong in deepening cooperation, good brotherhood, and neighbourliness during his leadership.

The two sides expressed mutual trust, sacrifice, and solidarity, noting the importance of historical independence from colonialism and imperialism. They committed to building a long-lasting friendship. Samdech Techo Hun Sen, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet, Laotian prime minister, and Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh underscored their regular meetings at various locations and forums.

In the meeting, both leaders expressed a desire to increase trade and cooperation. Viet Nam aims to become a developed country by 2030, entering the top 20 economies in the world. The Vietnamese counterpart also wished Cambodia success in achieving the vision of Samdech Techo and Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet's leadership to become a high-income country by 2050.

The discussion included promoting and enhancing infrastructure connectivity, especially economic integration for independence, creating mutual complementarity between the two economies. The growth will benefit Cambodia and complement the tourism market and infrastructure.

Both sides agreed to prioritise people as the core focus, particularly in electricity infrastructure connectivity. The Vietnamese side accepted Samdech Techo's proposal to continue supplying 250 megawatts of electricity to Cambodia, extending the contract beyond 2025. The Vietnamese side also expressed willingness to supply up to 400 megawatts or more to support Cambodia's Industry 4.0 development.

On the occasion, both sides highly valued the efforts between their parties and the Royal Government in training and exchanging young people to foster mutual understanding, trust, and goodwill, ensuring long-term friendship. They also acknowledged the contributions of Nguyen Phu Trong in building human resources for future cooperation between Cambodia, Viet Nam, and Laos.
