Kandal (FN), Aug. 5 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet stated that the Funan Techo Canal project holds the highest national significance during this reign.

The premier spoke on Monday (Aug. 5) during a groundbreaking ceremony of Funan Techo Canal.

Samdech Thipadei underlined that the Funan Techo canal project is not merely an infrastructure project, regardless of whether it costs USD 1.7 billion, USD 2 billion, or even USD 10 billion, or just a few million dollars. The budget size is only an indicator. What sets this canal project apart from others, including highway or airport projects that also cost billions of dollars, is the national movement behind it.

"The Funan Techo Canal project is not only an infrastructure project but also one of the most significant nationalist projects of this reign. Since the post-liberation period of 1979, we have built many bridges, highways, and airports, but this Funan Techo Canal stands alone," Samdech Thipadei underscored.

Samdech Thipadei continued, "I have seen many messages on Facebook following Samdech Techo Hun Sen's announcement. People from all political backgrounds, including many parties, have expressed their support for the Funan Techo canal project. This is the first time I have seen a project that unites the spirit of nationalism for the development and benefit of our nation."

Premier Hun Manet further added that many people have raised concerns about the Funan Techo canal project without fully understanding it. However, the overwhelming support from Cambodian people at all levels, both inside and outside the country, has been evident. Celebrations have been planned across the country, with drums and festivities marking the occasion.
