Phnom Penh (FN), Aug. 9 – International Conference on “Integration of Business, Digital Technologies, and Social Sciences for a Sustainable ASEAN and Beyond” 2024 (IBTSS 2024) was held at the American University of Phnom Penh (AUPP) on 8-9 August 2024.
The international conference offers the attendees the opportunity to be able to enhance their professional visibility, expand their network, gain a global perspective, foster cross-cultural understanding, and embark on a fascinating exploration of Cambodia cultural treasures.
In his welcoming remarks, Malcolm McIver, President of AUPP, highlighted the economic development and digital technology transformation, emphasising that ASEAN has become the world’s fifth-largest economy, with a population of 700 million people, and the bloc’s projected gross domestic product (GDP) soaring to 5.2 trillion USD in 2025. In terms of peace and stability, the ASEAN region is currently one of the most stable and peaceful regions in the world. The peace and stability contributed to the acceleration of economic growth, social progress, and cultural development in the region.
AUPP President Malcolm McIver stated, “Digital Technology lays a foundation to achieve economic growth, social progress and cultural development.” He encouraged the participants to see this conference as the opportunity to learn from each other, exchange ideas, and forge connections for the future as technology serves as a catalyst for positive change, sustainable and continued development.
On the occasion, Malcolm McIver also hoped that the international conference, organised at AUPP, will contribute to the acceleration of economic, social and cultural development of the ASEAN member states.
Chankuolika Bo, Undersecretary of State of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports and also one of the keynote speakers, highlighted the current situation of the ASEAN region, cross-cultural understanding and the emerging trends of Digital Technology. In her remarks, she called for comprehensive partnerships and collective cooperation between the Royal Government of Cambodia and the private sectors to foster innovation, tackle issues and put forward impactful solutions.
The IBTSS 2024 international conference is a collaborative effort among the American University of Phnom Penh (AUPP), University of Arizona (UA), Fort Hays State University (FHSU), Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) and Primax Foundation (India).
The conference aims to facilitate discussions and research among academics, professionals, and students on the relationship between business, digital technologies, and social sciences for sustainable development in the ASEAN region and beyond.
The overall objectives of the conference are: 1) Analyse the impact of business integration, digital technologies, and social sciences on sustainable development in the ASEAN region and beyond; 2) Identify best practices and case studies showcasing successful integration strategies in the areas of business, digital technologies, and social sciences; 3) Explore the role of policy frameworks, regulations, and governance mechanisms in fostering the integration of these fields for sustainable development; 4) Discuss emerging trends, challenges, and opportunities in the integration of business, digital technologies, and social sciences for sustainable development; and lastly, 5) Facilitate discussions and collaborations on innovative solutions, research projects, and initiatives that promote sustainability and address societal needs in the ASEAN region and beyond.
