Phnom Penh (FN), Aug. 15 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet gave seven recommendations to Ministry of Cults and Religions and Buddhist priests nationwide to contribute more effectively to the promotion and strengthening of the field of cults and religions.

The premier spoke on Thursday (Aug. 15) during a meeting with Buddhist priests at the National Institute of Education.

"To contribute more effectively to the promotion and strengthening of the field of cults and religions, Samdech Thipadei offered seven recommendations as follows:

1. The Ministry of Cults and Religions shall continue to organize training courses on the roles, duties, and ethics of Cambodian Buddhist priests to meet the needs of people across the country in this important field.

2. Encourages Buddhist priests to enhance good solidarity with Buddhists, monks, and authorities at all levels, adhere to the code of ethics, contribute to preventing the exploitation of religion, serve Buddhism and people from all walks of life, preserve the beautiful cultural traditions of the Khmer, and contribute to education to eliminate the use and trafficking of drugs, domestic violence, human trafficking, youth gangs, and so on.

3. Encourages Buddhist priests to enhance good solidarity with the monks and always adhere to the spirit that Buddhist priests are subordinates or monk's servants, so they should not engage in any activities, whether physically, verbally, or mentally, that are inappropriate to the monks, which could lead to disputes affecting the values and dignity of the pagoda, as well as the prestige of our national Buddhism.

4. Encourages Buddhist priests to maintain high virtues and avoid any wrongdoing, partisanship, political tendencies, or caste discrimination that undermines their dignity.

5. The Ministry of Cults and Religions shall update teaching materials to ensure consistency in practices during religious ceremonies and weddings. At the same time, the Ministry shall collaborate with all stakeholders in training and orienting operators in the implementation of religious rituals and other ceremonies.

6. The Ministry of Cults and Religions shall reorganize the Khmer Wise Association to ensure the sustainability of building a wise capital with highly capable and knowledgeable wise contributing to the preservation of Buddhism, as well as the nation's beautiful traditions and customs.

7. Encourages Buddhist priests to continually act in accordance with religious dharma discipline, and social morality, building themselves to become respected, loved, and trusted by the local people. In addition to their leading roles in organizing various ceremonies, women and women are encouraged to participate in various social activities through educating people, youth, and children to refrain from evil deeds such as drug use, gang activities, gambling, violence, and human trafficking, thereby contributing to the strengthening of safe villages, communes, and Sangkat."
