Sihanoukville (FN), Sep. 12 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet stated that the Sihanoukville Autonomous Port is Cambodia's only deep-sea port and plays a vital role in the country's development by generating significant revenue.

The premier spoke on Thursday (Sep. 12) during an inauguration of the official use of the additional 253-meter-long container terminal at Sihanoukville Autonomous Port.

"Sihanoukville Autonomous Port is Cambodia's only deep-sea port. The port has been instrumental in the country’s development by generating business revenue and increasing the volume of goods and containers handled daily," Samdech Thipadei underscored.

Samdech Thipadei added that the Royal Government of Cambodia is working to expand the deep-sea ports in Kampot and Koh Kong. However, Sihanoukville Autonomous Port remains one of the country's leading ports and continues to show great potential.

On this occasion, Samdech Thipadei also praised and expressed his appreciation for the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, especially the Board of Directors, management, civil servants, and staff of Sihanoukville Autonomous Port for their hard work in providing prompt, high-quality, and efficient services. These efforts aim to boost Cambodia's competitiveness in regional logistics and transport sectors.

The premier added that the additional 253-meter container terminal will further enhance Sihanoukville Autonomous Port's capacity and modernisation to meet the growing demand for container traffic. This development paves the way for the realisation of the future three-phase deep-water container port expansion.
