Phnom Penh (FN), Sep. 14 – Cham Nimul, Minister of Commerce, has shown her full confidence that in 2024, the trade volume between Cambodia and Indonesia will increase significantly. In 2023, the trade volume between the two countries exceeded USD 1 billion, marking a 15 per cent increase compared to 2022.

Cham Nimul spoke on 13 September 2024 during the opening ceremony of “Sousdey Indonesia” at Diamond Island Convention and Exhibition Center.

The minister of Commerce underscored, "I strongly believe that in 2024, our trade volume will increase through creative initiatives such as 'Sousdey Indonesia as well as strong cooperation between the two governments in new trade activities."

The minister also expressed her gratitude to the Indonesian ambassador for organising this important event, which underscores the friendship between the two nations and significantly promotes bilateral trade relations, cultural exchanges, and people-to-people ties.

"We encourage the private sector to participate in and organise such events regularly, both in Cambodia and Indonesia, to explore new opportunities and create partnerships," she added.

The "Sousdey Indonesia" event features a wide range of activities, including product exhibitions and sales, tourism promotion, educational programs, cultural performances, arts exhibitions, business matching meetings, investment promotion, food festivals, and debates.

With more than 100 booths showcasing products and services, the event is expected to contribute to increased trade and enhanced cooperation between Cambodia and Indonesia, particularly in the areas of tourism, cultural exchange, and investment. The participation of both countries will provide a platform for the private sector to explore potential opportunities and establish new trade and investment partnerships.

It should be noted that "Sousdey Indonesia" has been renamed from the "Indonesia Trade and Tourism Promotion (ITTP)," an event held in Phnom Penh since 2006. In 2024, this marks the 15th anniversary of the event and the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Cambodia and Indonesia.
