Phnom Penh (FN), Sep. 26 – On 26 September 2024, KOICA Cambodia Office held a pre-departure orientation for the Cambodian government officials from Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology & Innovation (MISTI) as well as intellectual property (IP) agent andIP officer in the private sector who are selected for a trainingcourse on “Capacity Building for Intellectual Property and Patent Recognition Program (PRP) System in Cambodia (2023-2025)” from October 6 to 17, 2024 in the Republic of Korea.
The objectives of this training program are to promote sustainable economic growth in Cambodia by strengthening the capabilities of IP professionals in the creation and commercialization of IP. Additionally, it aims to encourage IP-driven business activities between Korean and Cambodian SMEs through the expertise ofthese professionals. Ultimately, the program seeks to create new business opportunities by leveraging the power of intellectual property.
This training program includes a total of twenty (20) participants, comprising Cambodian government officials from MISTI, as well as IP agents and officers from the private sector. It marks the second year of the program, following the first-year training course that was successfully conducted in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
The pre-departure orientation also included participants from three global training programs, consisting of government officials from the 1) Ministry of Post and Telecommunications, 2) Ministry of Mines and Energy, and 3) Ministry of Economy and Finance.
During the opening session of the pre-departure orientation, Ms. Lee Sejin, Deputy Country Director of the KOICA Cambodia Office, congratulated the participants and provided valuable insights into the KOICA training program. She expressed her hope that the program would meet its objectives, offer a rewarding experience, and enhance the participants' capacities. Ms. Lee encouraged the candidates to make the most of this exceptional opportunity to learn from Korea’s development journey during their stay in the Republic of Korea and to share their gained knowledge upon returning to Cambodia, contributing to the country’s sustainable development.
At the pre-departure orientation event, KOICA Cambodia officers provided a brief overview of the training courses and familiarized participants with the KOICA Fellowship Program. They also shared useful information about life in Korea and KOICA outlined important guidelines, including the Code of Conduct on Integrity and policies regarding sexual harassment.
The selected participants showed their gratitude to KOICA and Korean government for supporting and they showed a high level of participation and commitment throughout the course to promote capacity building for a broad understanding of IP and PRP.
Remarkably, since 1994, KOICA fellowship program has supported Cambodian government officers with a total of 3,773participants in various schemes of support such as Country Training, Global Training, and Scholarship programs. KOICA will continue to support and implement programs in Cambodia that target the development of human resources.
