Phnom Penh (FN), Oct. 8 – In September 2024, the Cambodian Investment Board (CIB) of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC) approved 28 projects worth USD 443 million, according to the press release seen by Fresh News on Tuesday (Oct. 8).
“In September 2024, CDC approved 26 new investment projects and two product expansion projects, with a total investment capital of USD 443 million and creating about 25,000 jobs,” the press release added.
Of the total investment projects, six are located outside Special Economic Zones (SEZ), while 22 are within SEZs.
Notably, the most prominent investment projects for September include:
A. Outside the SEZ
1. An expansion project of a garment factory located in Prey Kik Village, Sangkat Pong Teuk, Khan Dangkor, Phnom Penh, with an additional investment of USD 12.5 million, creating 2,505 jobs.
B. Inside the SEZ
1. A project to establish the Pursat Special Economic Zone, located in Saravan Village, Sna Ansa Commune, Krakor District, Pursat Province, with an investment exceeding USD 70 million, creating 708 jobs.
2. A project to establish the Fungfu International Special Economic Zone, located in Trapeang Chhlong Village, Nhor Commune, Preah Bakak Village, and Prey Sakum Village, Prey Thom Commune, Kampong Rou District, Svay Rieng Province, with an investment of USD 55 million, creating 251 jobs.
3. An investment project to establish a factory for manufacturing and assembling machinery and mechanical components, located in the Pursat Special Economic Zone, with an investment of over USD 38 million, creating 8,918 jobs.
4. An investment project to establish a factory for processing dairy products, non-alcoholic beverages, and various food items, located in the Sovannaphum Special Economic Zone, with an investment exceeding USD 37 million, creating 58 jobs.
5. An investment project to establish a factory for producing electrical wires and cables, located in the Sihanoukville Special Economic Zone, with an investment of USD 25 million, creating 1,188 jobs.
6. An investment project to establish an aluminium processing plant located in the Manhattan Special Economic Zone, with an investment of over USD 20 million, creating 684 jobs.
It should be noted that in September 2024, investment from China ranked first, accounting for 38.23% of total investment, while domestic investment made up 32.92% of total capital.
