Phnom Penh (FN), Oct. 15 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet advised the army to be prepared to collaborate with the military and police in cracking down on all forms of crime, including natural resource violations and cybercrimes. Over the past six months, the army has actively participated with authorities in combating forest crimes.
The premier spoke on Tuesday (Oct. 15) during the 30th founding anniversary of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces’ (RCAF) Brigade 70 in Phnom Penh.
Samdech Thipadei said that the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces, especially the army, is ready to support the Royal Gendarmerie and the National Police in addressing major crimes that threaten national security in the future.
"These crimes include natural resource violations, cross-border drug trafficking, and cybercrimes. This is an area the Royal Government is committed to overseeing through our enforcement officers. The National Police and the Gendarmerie have performed their duties well, but the evolving situation requires us to enhance our efforts, as these issues pose risks to both national and public security," the premier underscored.
The premier added that while we are currently at peace, we must remain vigilant against extremist plans that could harm our country. We still face security challenges, including crime, destruction, and encroachment on our natural resources. Our efforts in forest preservation, drug prevention, and preparing for future battles against online scams require strengthening the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces to support the justice system effectively, as actively practiced by the Gendarmerie and the National Police.
Samdech Thipadei added, "The fight against threats to our nation is not limited to armed conflict or the destruction of peace. It also encompasses safeguarding Cambodia from the deterioration of social security, the depletion of natural resources, and transnational crime, especially drug trafficking and online fraud, all of which pose significant risks to our nation."
On the occasion, Premier Hun Manet confirmed that these initiatives have already been put to the test. Over the past six months, military forces have increased their activities, even in areas not officially designated for management. Previously, a combat leadership committee, led by General Sao Sokha, collaborated with local authorities, environmental experts, and relevant ministries.
