Phnom Penh (FN), Oct. 15 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet issued a warning to those who exploit the hardships of the people to pursue their ambitions of seizing state land, speaking on Tuesday (Oct. 15) during the 30th founding anniversary of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces’ (RCAF) Brigade 70 in Phnom Penh.
"Yesterday, I signed a two-point agreement to cancel the land clearing for the people. Some individuals representing 300 landless families are asking for 1,000 or 2,000 hectares of land to be granted to them. I referred this to Say Sam Al, but the representatives did not know the whereabouts of the people and requested all the land in the national park. In such cases, the Royal Government will not allow it,” Samdech Thipadei underscored.
Premier Hun Manet warned that those who seek to deceive in this manner will face legal consequences, as this constitutes fraud.
Samdech Thipadei underlined that for those who are genuinely landless, the Royal Government is preparing a mechanism for a registration process to accurately assess land needs and avoid misinformation. The government regularly implements policies regarding economic land concessions.
On the occasion, the premier also urged the public not to follow brokers who exploit the situation by requesting state land and encroaching on state forest land. Beginning in January 2025, the government will set up a National Committee to study the locations and procedures for providing land to those in need and to assist in the development of villages on newly allocated land.
Prime Minister Hun Manet stated that protecting land and natural resources is the Royal Government's duty to its citizens.
