Phnom Penh (FN), Oct. 18 – Sinlavong Khoutphaythoune, President of the Central Committee of the Lao Front for National Construction (LFNC), noted that Samdech Techo Hun Sen, Cambodian Senate President, is a renowned leader in Cambodia, Laos, ASEAN and globally.
Samdech Techo Hun Sen received a courtesy call by Sinlavong Khoutphaythoune on Friday (Oct 18) at the Cambodian People’s Party’s headquarter.
During the meeting, Samdech Techo warmly welcomed the LFNC president and his delegation, noting that their visit would further strengthen ties between the two parties, the two fronts, and the people of both nations.
On the occasion, Samdech Techo congratulated the Lao People's Democratic Republic for successfully hosting the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits and related events as the rotating ASEAN Chair. He also commended the strong relationship between the LFNC and the Solidarity Front for the Development of Cambodian Motherland (SFDCM), which recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for 2024-2028.
Sinlavong thanked Samdech Techo for allowing him and his delegation to pay a courtesy call on. He praised Samdech Techo as a prominent leader not only in Cambodia and Laos but also across ASEAN and internationally. He also briefed Samdech Techo on his meeting with Samdech Men Sam An, recalling Samdech Techo’s leadership in uniting Cambodia, transforming it into a multi-party state with a unified Royal Government, armed forces, and national solidarity.
Taking this occasion, Sinlavong conveyed greetings from Thongloun Sisoulith, President and General Secretary of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, to Samdech Techo. He also thanked Cambodia for sending a high-level delegation to attend the ASEAN Summit in Vientiane, and for the National Assembly President’s participation in the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) Summit, reflecting the strong ties between the two nations.
Sinlavong highlighted the achievements of cooperation between the LFNC and SFDCM, particularly the signing of the MoU for 2024-2028, which contains eight key points, emphasizing the commitment to strengthening the long-standing relationship between the two countries and elevating it to a comprehensive strategic partnership.
Samdech Techo Hun Sen expressed his satisfaction with the 68 years of strong bilateral relations between Cambodia and Laos and reaffirmed his commitment to continuing this cooperation for mutual benefit. He noted that the Cambodia-Laos relationship, which will celebrate its 70th anniversary in two years, has been under the leadership of the Cambodian People’s Party for more than half of that time since 1979.
Samdech Techo also highlighted Sinlavong with insights into the formation of the SFDCM, established after Samdech Techo created the Cambodian National Salvation Army in 1978.
Samdech Techo mentioned that the friendly relations and solidarity between Cambodia and Laos have reached the level of a "comprehensive and long-term strategic partnership," evident in the strong cooperation between the governments, parliaments, parties, and people of both countries. He noted progress in areas such as border development, population changes, trade growth, and energy cooperation within ASEAN.
Samdech Techo highlighted Cambodia’s continued need to purchase electricity from Laos for domestic use and for export to Singapore, a new initiative promoting ASEAN connectivity. Samdech Techo also forwarded his regards to Thongloun Sisoulith through Sinlavong.
The LFNC president expressed deep gratitude for Samdech Techo's guidance on strengthening bilateral ties and pledged to preserve this precious tradition, passing it on to future generations to maintain the enduring relationship between the two nations.
Lastly, Sinlavong congratulated Cambodia on its rapid development, particularly in the management and growth of Phnom Penh and other major cities. He mentioned that his delegation plans to visit Sihanoukville during their next trip.
