Kep (FN), Nov. 11 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet described the formation of the so-called "National Resistance Movement" by extremist opposition groups abroad as merely an event created to attract attention, noting that more and more former supporters have been losing faith and distancing themselves from this opposition group.

The premier spoke on Monday (Nov. 11) during an inauguration of the Techo Santepheap Angkol Beach Road at Kep province.

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet affirmed that loyal members and senior officials from various opposition groups have left their parties to join the Royal Government of Cambodia and the Cambodian People's Party (CPP).

Samdech Thipadei underscored, "In recent months, there have been endless formations of movements abroad, including shadow governments [...] I am not sure what they intend to create or what their purpose is. Their objectives seem to remain unchanged, just presented differently. Recently, a new movement has emerged, and former supporters in the country, once members of that party, have come forward to join the Royal Government, the CPP, along with some of its senior officials and key supporters abroad."

In this context, Samdech Thipadei commented on Mou Sokhour, who recently established a pro-democracy movement abroad, initially as president but later assumed the role of vice president, likely in a rearrangement with Sam Rainsy within this new movement. He noted the endless reshuffling of these movements, even as supporters continue to distance themselves.

Some individuals continue to incite, provoke, and divide the people, including the formation of a shadow government abroad and acting on social media as if they were the prime minister. In addition, the Royal Government of Cambodia has been wrongly accused of being an illegal government. However, in July 2023, more than 8 million people casted their votes in line with the Constitution.

At the same time, Samdech Thipadei underlined the loss of trust among high-ranking opposition officials and sincere activists, who spread lies, deceit, and false accusations against the legitimate government. After a series of clarifications, many of those who had been loyal to the opposition chose to join the Royal Government and the CPP.

Samdech Thipadei also warned that the Royal Government of Cambodia will not tolerate any activities that exceed the law and seek to cause social unrest or create instability.
