Phnom Penh (FN), Nov. 11 – Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni extinguished the victory flame on Tuesday (Nov. 11), marking the 71st National Independence Day celebrations held at the Independence Monument.

The ceremony was attended by Senate President Samdech Techo Hun Sen, National Assembly President Khuon Sudary, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet, members of the King’s Supreme Advisory Council, and members of the National Assembly.

The victory flame, symbolising the rights and freedoms of the Cambodian people after independence, was lit for three days starting 9 November 2024.

9 November 2024, commemorates the 71st anniversary of Cambodia’s full liberation from French colonial rule and the restoration of sovereignty under the late King Father Norodom Sihanouk’s leadership. It also marks the founding anniversary of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces.

As in previous years, large celebrations took place at the Independence Monument in Phnom Penh, with additional events held in provincial capitals to honor this historic day.
