Bangkok (FN), Nov. 21 — In a dazzling celebration of artistic excellence, the TDO (Thailand International Dance Organization) International Dance Competition 2024 unfolded in grandeur from November 6-10 at the renowned Aksra Theatre, King Power, Bangkok. Bringing together over 1,200 participants representing 90 esteemed dance institutions across 13 countries, the event stood as a beacon of global talent and cultural exchange. Among the elite competitors, Cambodia’s Star Magic Dance School made an indelible mark, proudly earning two silver and two bronze medals.
The contingent, invited by the TDO president, consisted of four prodigiously talented students—Joanna (5), Nisa (10), Zahra (12), and Risa (12).These young performers graced the stage in two demanding categories: Lyrical Modern Ballet and Repertoire Classical Ballet. Competing alongside seasoned dancers from across the globe, their remarkable performances were a testament to their skill, resilience, and the growing prominence of Cambodia’s dance community on the international stage.
The competition itself, held at the opulent Aksra Theatre, was a spectacle of artistry and technical brilliance. For the dancers from Star Magic Dance School Cambodia, this platform represented more than just an opportunity to compete; it was a stage to demonstrate their confidence and artistic prowess to an international audience.
This year’s achievements build upon Star Magic Dance School’s growing legacy of excellence. In 2023, one of its students secured a silver medal in the Musical Theatre category, setting a precedent for the school’s commitment to producing talented and ethusiastic young dancers. The 2024 competition, however, marked a watershed moment for the institution, as it expanded its representation and medal haul, further solidifying its status as a nurturing ground for Cambodia’s young dancers.
The success of Joanna, Nisa, Zahra, and Risa reflects the collective effort of their parents, teachers, and the institution itself. “This competition is not merely a test of skill,” remarked the Founding Director and CEO of Star Magic Dance School, Esther Lau. “It is a transformative journey—an experience that instills confidence, discipline, and a sense of accomplishment.”
The medals are a testament to the unwavering dedication and meticulous preparation undertaken by the students and their mentors. Months of rigorous training, choreographic refinement, and emotional investment culminated in performances that left an indelible impression on judges and audiences alike.
For Cambodia’s youth, participating in such an event is a rare and invaluable opportunity, opening doors to international exposure and elevating the country’s profile in the performing arts.
Their journey represents the dawning of a new era for dance community , where young talents can dream big, perform boldly, and achieve greatness on the world stage.
