Phnom Penh (FN), Nov. 21 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet said that the kingdom’s electricity consumption in 2024 has risen by 15.56% compared to same period in 2023, speaking on Thursday (Nov. 21) at the closing of the annual meeting of the Ministry of Mines and Energy at Sofitel Phnom Penh Phokeethra.

"Currently, the kingdom's electricity consumption in 2024 has increased by 15.56% compared to 2023, with 86.67% sourced from domestic energy production with 13.3% imported from neighbouring countries,” the premier underscored.

Efforts to expand the power supply network have achieved significant milestones. By the end of 2024, the national grid is expected to cover 99.15% of the country’s villages. Additionally, the number of connected user locations has reached 3.86 million, reflecting an increase of approximately 4% compared to 2023.

On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet noted that the number of households connected to the electricity grid has grown to 3.6 million, representing 95.25% of all households nationwide. He emphasised that this achievement is a tangible success of the energy sector, significantly benefiting the people.

The premier would like to express his gratitude and appreciation to the Ministry of Mines and Energy, the Electricity Authority of Cambodia, private development partners, and all other stakeholders who have contributed to the energy sector’s development. Their efforts have driven Cambodia towards ambitious progress in ensuring an adequate power supply for every corner of the country.
