Phnom Penh (FN), Nov. 22 – Samdech Techo Hun Sen, President of the Cambodian People's Party (CPP) and Honorary Chairman of the 12th ICAPP General Assembly, urged self-proclaimed "fathers of democracy" to avoid a third historical mistake in Cambodia, citing their past support for Lon Nol’s coup and the Khmer Rouge’s seat at the United Nations.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen spoke on Friday (Nov. 22) during the opening ceremony of the 12th General Assembly of ICAPP at the CPP’s headquarters.

On the occasion, Samdech Techo Hun Sen reaffirmed Cambodia’s commitment to regional and global peace by preserving an international order based on universally recognised standards. He also underlined the need for multilateralism and cooperation, grounded in mutual respect, trust, understanding, and benefit, as essential for fostering unity, harmony, and lasting peace among nations and peoples.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen also urged government leaders, including those of all political parties, to not overlook the value of peace. He called for serious efforts to find common ground before negotiations, in order to bridge differences, ease tensions, and resolve conflicts peacefully.

The Cambodian People's Party (CPP) became a member of the International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP) in 2003. The ICAPP has brought together nearly 60 Asian political parties from over 40 countries in Cambodia to discuss peace and reconciliation in response to regional and global conflicts.

The 12th ICAPP General Assembly in Cambodia is held under the theme "A Quest for Peace and Reconciliation." The event has attracted over 200 delegates from 42 countries, representing approximately 57 political parties, along with journalists from 11 countries.
