Phnom Penh (FN), Nov. 22 – Samdech Techo Hun Sen, President of the Cambodian People's Party (CPP) and Honorary Chairman of the 12th General Assembly of the International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP), stated that in recent years, there have been attempts to instigate a colour revolution to overthrow the Royal Government of Cambodia, following the success of similar movements in Bangladesh. However, the Cambodian government was aware of these tactics and successfully prevented such attempts.
Samdech Techo Hun Sen spoke on Friday (Nov. 22) during the opening ceremony of the 12th General Assembly of ICAPP at the CPP’s headquarters.
Samdech Techo continued, "In recent years, human rights have been weaponised as a political tool to attempt to overthrow the democratically elected Royal Government of Cambodia. In fact, a colour revolution was attempted to topple a government led by the CPP."
Samdech Techo Hun Sen also recalled the recent colour revolution in Bangladesh. He warned that those seeking to destabilise Cambodia were employing similar tactics. The Cambodian government is familiar with the methods of the colourist group and assured that they would not succeed in staging a coup d'état or overthrowing the government. Instead, their goal is to provoke a colour revolution by mobilising mobs, with their first step being the neutralisation of the armed forces and the civilian administration.
Samdech Techo continued that, for Cambodia to remain neutral, only political parties should be allowed to operate, while the armed forces and civilian administration must remain loyal instruments of the state. Revolutionaries would accomplish nothing, and that the situation must be managed wisely. Failing to do so would lead to bloodshed and division within the country. The government is not afraid to take strong measures to prevent a colour revolution.
