Phnom Penh (FN), Nov. 22 – Samdech Techo Hun Sen, President of the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) and Honorary Chairman of the 12th General Assembly of the International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP), stated that justice cannot be achieved without peace. Seeking justice without considering national reconciliation is not a wise approach, as it could lead a nation into chaos or civil war.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen spoke on Friday (Nov. 22) during the opening ceremony of the 12th General Assembly of ICAPP at the CPP’s headquarters.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen underscored, "I would like to discuss national reconciliation and transitional justice in the context of Cambodia's search for peace. In my win-win policy, I believe that sustainable peace cannot be achieved without considering key factors such as national reconciliation, justice, transition, social and economic integration, and international cooperation."

Meanwhile, Samdech Techo continued, "At this point, I would like to stress that justice cannot exist without peace. Pursuing justice without national reconciliation in mind is an unwise choice, as it could result in chaos or civil war. Therefore, national reconciliation is fundamental to the pursuit of sustainable peace."

Samdech Techo Hun Sen also underlined that national reconciliation is essential for lasting peace. If Cambodia had not safeguarded its sovereignty, it could have been ruined by the Khmer Rouge trials, which did not take national reconciliation into account. He noted that the use of international mechanisms, without the ownership and participation of the country involved, is not conducive to reconciliation or peace.

On the occasion, Samdech Techo Hun Sen added that seeking justice hastily, without considering peace, was never his approach.
