Phnom Penh (FN), Nov. 22 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet, also the Chair of the 12th General Assembly of the International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP), affirmed that the Cambodian People's Party (CPP) is firmly committed to safeguarding peace, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, while developing and resisting all hostile forces in any form.
The premier spoke on Friday (Nov. 22) during the opening ceremony of the 12th General Assembly of ICAPP at the CPP’s headquarters.
Samdech Thipadei stated that in order to maintain peace and foster a reconciliatory atmosphere, building solidarity through the promotion of greater understanding is more crucial than ever on the fundamental issues of peace and reconciliation:
First, our commitment to the principles and purposes of the UN Charter, emphasising non-interference, sovereignty, equality, and mutual respect.
Second, deepening inter-faith dialogue to enhance mutual understanding and trust, recognising that political trust is the foundation for peace, reconciliation, and cooperation.
Third, strengthening intergenerational relationships and reducing ideological divisions through dialogue and respect.
“I cannot say for certain that achieving peace requires the reconciliation of differences. Peace can only be attained through the peaceful settlement of disputes based on dialogue, consultation, and a win-win approach. Of course, strengthening defence is our right and part of our democracy, but this should not undermine our commitment to dialogue and the peaceful resolution of issues,” the premier underscored.
Samdech Thipadei added, “To maintain the peace that we are celebrating and ensure its sustainability, which requires daily peacekeeping efforts, I would like to conclude my speech by emphasising that reconciliation with the enemy, as demonstrated by Samdech Techo, is a strength, not a weakness. Reconciliation is not for the defeated, but for the wise, who see a win-win solution beyond war.”
