Phnom Penh (FN), Nov. 23 – Cambodian Senate President Samdech Techo Hun Sen received a courtesy call from Tran Thanh Man, Chairman of the National Assembly of Viet Nam, at the Cambodian People's Party headquarters on 22 November 2024.
On this occasion, Samdech Techo Hun Sen warmly welcomed Tran Thanh Man and his delegation, who were paying an official visit to Cambodia and participating in the 12th General Assembly of the International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP) and the 11th Plenary Session of the International Parliament for Tolerance and Peace (IPTP).
On the occasion, Samdech Techo expressed hope that the visit of the chairman of the National Assembly of Viet Nam would further strengthen relations and cooperation between the two countries amidst rapidly and unpredictably evolving global circumstances.
Tran Thanh Man conveyed his pleasure in making the official visit to Cambodia and attending the 12th ICAPP General Assembly and the 11th IPTP Plenary Session, as tasked by the Secretary-General of the Communist Party of Viet Nam.
He recalled his memorable past meetings with Samdech Techo Hun Sen on three occasions and extended regards from To Lam. He congratulated the Cambodian People's Party (CPP) on its electoral success, reflecting the Cambodian people's support. He also praised Cambodia's remarkable progress under the leadership of Samdech Techo.
Tran Thanh Man shared that, during his visit, he had met with the President of the Cambodian National Assembly and attended the inauguration of the new National Assembly administrative building, a gift worth USD 25 million from the Vietnamese people. Additionally, he met with Cambodian Prime Minister.
The chairman also highlighted Viet Nam’s strong economic performance, achieving a high growth rate compared to other countries in the region and globally. He noted that Viet Nam is entering a new era, aiming to become a high-income country. He also mentioned two significant milestones Viet Nam is preparing to commemorate: the 100th anniversary of the Communist Party of Viet Nam in 2030 and the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam in 2045.
Tran Thanh Man also underlined the special bond between Viet Nam and Cambodia, describing the two nations as “two countries, one village, one fence.” He commended Samdech Techo for his leadership achievements and extended congratulations on Cambodia's stability, peace, and development, as well as its growing prestige on the international stage. He pledged to further strengthen and expand cooperation between the parliaments, governments, and people of both nations, while promoting high-level visits.
He also stressed the importance of adhering to principles that prevent enemy forces from using either country’s territory against the other. He called for joint efforts in combating transnational crime, misinformation, and environmental threats, such as safeguarding the Mekong River’s water resources. Furthermore, he expressed gratitude to Cambodia for its donations to Viet Nam in the aftermath of Typhoon Yagi.
In response, Samdech Techo Hun Sen extended warm regards and thanked To Lam and the Vietnamese leadership for their hospitality and security arrangements during the Great Khmer Family Solidarity Kathina procession. He acknowledged this as a testament to the strong cultural cooperation and preservation of Khmer Krom traditions.
Samdech Techo expressed his appreciation for the Khmer Krom community, who strictly adhere to Vietnamese laws and regulations. He urged Vietnamese authorities to continue supporting the preservation of Khmer traditions and religious practices among Cambodian communities in Viet Nam.
He also proposed exploring joint efforts between Cambodia, Viet Nam, and other Mekong River countries to register intangible heritage, such as Sankranti, to promote shared cultural celebrations and connections.
Samdech Techo requested enhanced bilateral economic cooperation, noting Cambodia’s significant exports of cashew nuts to Viet Nam. He also proposed the resumption of annual meetings among the party leaders of Cambodia, Viet Nam, and Laos, highlighting the importance of this mechanism for fostering trilateral cooperation amidst global challenges.
Samdech Techo emphasised the necessity of maintaining and expanding the existing frameworks of cooperation to ensure security and counter threats, including attempts to instigate “colour revolutions.”
Lastly, Samdech Techo wished Tran Thanh Man success in his mission and an enjoyable stay in Cambodia.
